AWS Loop is, perhaps, seriously flawed

There’s nothing inherently wrong with behavioral questions, and seeking quantifiable data to round out one’s story has merit. However, to completely rely on this methodology is to ignore other traits which might favor the candidate while being highly advantageous to the firm. Notwithstanding their “bias for data” these interviews are highly subjective and conducted in a contentious, even off-putting manner. Most interviewers are not really engaging the candidate, but are running through a series of questions pinned to the 14 principles. While doing this they’re typing away at their keyboards, inputing your answers, while leaving very little to no room for actually trying to “know” who you are at core. As well, your CV -however strong it might be- only gets you to the loop, IF you get that far. What the loop is designed for isn’t so much to vet capable and exciting talent, so much as to weed out those who are believed won’t fit with their internal process model. That’s fine if that’s how you want to define a culture, but it’s also self-limiting and therefore unlikely to acquire a diverse range of talent necessary for healthy and sustained growth. For all their genius and success, Amazon’s/AWS’s filtering process must inevitably lead to a systemic bias which will hobble their ability in attracting and keeping the very thinking they claim to want. Get the job if YOU want and can land it, but think carefully on who YOU are, what your gifts and attributes include and how they might be put to good use.
